IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Dear Bauer Families,
It is with great joy and sadness that I enter retirement from public education after working with energetic, uninhibited, and spontaneous children for over 36 years.  The program last evening was a metaphor of my career.  Hundreds of student voices coming together in one clear resounding song signified our children that come from diverse backgrounds and create one classroom and school family that takes on unique and obvious character traits.
The props and instruments our little ones showcased are like the academic, social, and emotional skills we intentionally equip each child so that they are contributing members of our school, community, and society.
As witnessed by the audience, every community has the serious, silly, shy, confident, humorous (the list goes on!) member.  Watching our individual students on stage made clear the necessity of diversity of personality and talent.  How blessed we are to have talents and personality as many, and unique, as our children.
Mrs. VanRijs and Mr. Bowman represented the adults that guide, prepare, and nurture us to be the very best we can be.  Leaders that give us multiple opportunities to demonstrate what we are capable of, even when it means starting a song over again!
Lastly, the audience is symbolic of our village.  The quote by Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has", has hung in my office for as long as I can recall.  Each and every one present contributes to changing the world.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for allowing me the awesome privilege of serving at your pleasure for over three years.  I will miss the students, staff, families, and friends of Bauer Elementary,

Best regards,

Julie VanBergen

BPC SCRIP PROGRAM
BPC is introducing a new way for you to shop and help Bauer Elementary at the same time! Many of you may be familiar with the Scrip program and we thought it was time to bring it to Bauer. Through Scrip you can purchase gift cards at full value (no extra fees) and the retailers donate 2-16% back to the school. There are over 750 retailers to choose from including Meijer, Family Fare, Target, Amazon and so many more! Watch for a flyer coming home with your child today with more details.
Gift card orders may be placed with paper order forms or online (Bauer online enrollment code - 817E45BA6L851). You can also reload gift cards or purchase e-cards from your computer or mobile device. As the holiday season approaches, keep in mind that gift cards make great gifts for teachers, coaches, babysitters, etc!
Here’s a few scenarios to illustrate the tremendous impact we can have through our regular purchases.
1.  Your family spends $100/week on groceries. Meijer offers 3% back through Scrip. By paying with Scrip gift cards, your family can earn $156 annually just by purchasing groceries!
2.  You typically spend $60/week in gas. You prefer to fill up at Speedway, which offers 4% through Scrip. By using a Scrip gift card, you can contribute another $125.
3.  You decide to grab some lunch with a friend. After checking what restaurants are nearby, you opt for Chipotle. A quick review of MyScripWallet.com shows Chipotle offers 10% so you purchase an e-card on your phone. Your delicious lunch has just raised funds for Bauer!
The next round of orders are due back on Wednesday, December 5th and the cards will be available to pick up on December 13th from 3:15-4:00pm (or you can have us send home with your child).  If you have questions, you can contact the Scrip Coordinator, Vanessa at bauerscrip@gmail.com.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
HABIT CARDS
Together we learn. Together we lead.”  That is our motto at Bauer Elementary School.  We recognize and encourage students to use the Seven Habits of Happy Kids outlined in Sean Covey’s book.  Our faculty is always on the look out for students that exemplify being proactive, thinking win-win, beginning with the end in mind, putting first things first, seeking first to understand prior to being understood, working in synergy with others and balancing the responsibilities in their lives.
We recognize students with our words and also by giving out “Habit Cards” to individual students and classes.  Each Monday, our teachers will draw out one card for each grade level.  The students who have a card randomly drawn will be able to lead the school in the Pledge every morning for a week and a group picture will be displayed in our cabinet by the office.  We will also celebrate as a group on a monthly basis.  It is our hope that your child shares with you when he or she receives a card and what it was for.  We have amazingly kind and caring students at Bauer!  We thank you for encouraging your child to continue with great behavior and the habits of happy kids!

RECESS ATTIRE

All students will go outside for recess unless it is raining or it is extremely cold.  The office staff monitors temperatures and weather throughout the day.  If a child must remain inside for recess for medical reasons, a doctor note is required.  Have your child dress appropriately.  Students should have a winter coat, snow pants, boots (shoes to wear inside), hats, and mittens.  Please let the office know if there is a need for any winter gear.
